Last Minute Larry is still out there
| February 11, 2011
You probably remember 2009-2010 as the year real estate and mortgage brokerage industry members completed a Re-Licensing Education Program (REP) prior to renewing. The year of Last Minute Larry.
It’s interesting to note the number of industry members completing each course in each quarter. When you check out the chart below keep in mind that Q1 began October 1, 2009 and Q4 ended September 30, 2010.
64% of real estate industry members and 74% of mortgage industry members completed the course in the fourth quarter (i.e. July, August and September). If you took the course in the fourth quarter, 60% of you completed it in September. This September completion trend is the norm in education years.
In 2009-2010 a number of strategies were initiated to alleviate last minute education pressures. These included:
- monthly, weekly, then daily emailed education reminders, starting in early 2010
- a focus on online course delivery (part of RECA’s education Core Values)
- new staff hires to handle course questions and manage the completion process.
The results were interesting.
Although more industry members took REP early, we also plateaued earlier, with the vast majority leaving it to the end… just like Last Minute Larry.
How do you think RECA can encourage early REP completion?
