New COVID-19 Restrictions
| November 25, 2020
The Alberta government has mandated that professional services businesses, such as lawyers and accountants, be able to work by appointment only. Real estate and mortgage brokerage services are considered professional services.
Accordingly, all property showings and meetings must now be done by appointment only, and must continue to follow the existing physical distancing and masking requirements in place. As a further step, conduct showings and have meetings virtually whenever possible.
Also, please be aware that in the spirit of these new restrictions, the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) has prohibited its members from holding in-person open houses, and has limited appointment viewings to two family-unit members at a time. The Real Estate Council of Alberta supports these measures.
Licensees should continue to adhere to all safety precautions and follow all provincial public health guidelines and municipal orders. Review RECA’s COVID-19 and Real Estate webpage for more information.
Thank you to AREA and the local real estate boards for their input in recent weeks. RECA will continue to work with industry associations and the government to evaluate the circumstances within the coming weeks.
