“I appreciate the confidence of the Minister in appointing me to the RECA Board,” said Walter. “As a public member of the Board, I understand my role is to ensure RECA fulfills its mandate to protect the public of Alberta, and that’s a role I intend to take seriously.”
Walter has been active in many Calgary charities and not-for-profit organizations. For his work he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
“The real estate industry has been a special focus of mine in my legal practice,” continued Walter. “I recognize the industry’s impact on Alberta’s economy, and I understand the professionalism licensees bring to their interactions with their clients. I’m looking forward to working with this fascinating industry as Alberta and the world adapts to new economic realities.”
Walter brings additional governance experience to the RECA Board, having served on the various Boards of both private and public companies.
“On behalf of the Board, I congratulate Gregory Walter on his appointment,” said Board Chair Patricia McLeod. “The Board has a lot to do over the next few years, and I look forward to working closely with Gregory to make sure RECA is an effective and efficient regulator in the public interest.”
The public member vacancy filled by Walter was created when Shirish Chotalia resigned from the Board for personal reasons in July 2021.
“The Board appreciates and thanks Shirish for her service to RECA,” said McLeod. “Shirish helped the Board get through our extremely busy first 6 months, and we wish her the very best.”
